It’s Number Day!

Join us in celebrating a day taking a look at all things racing numbers on Trading Paints.

It’s Number Day!

Today is 8/3 (we know, we know — it’s 3/8 in much of the world, but 8/3 looks like the Number Builder logo), the first-ever Trading Paints Number Day. Throughout the day, we’ll be celebrating all things numbers in iRacing (and surely having a great time playing around with Number Builder).

Here’s what’s on deck for this Number Day.

Giveaway: What’s your racing number?

Everybody’s car number has a story, and we want to know why you picked it. Share the special meaning of yours with us on our Instagram post. We’ll randomly give away some credits to the Trading Paints Store.

We’ve crunched the numbers (lol) and these are the most popular Custom Number paints assigned to Trading Paints since their introduction in 2019.

With 62,626 uses, the #17 barely cracked the top 10 over #18, the 11th-most-popular number.

Yeah, this one makes sense. Raced 66,345 times, there must be an awful lot of racers doing their best Gordon (or William Byron, for these modern times) impression.

Seven is a lucky number. At least that’s what somebody thought 67,728 times over.

To be honest, this one surprised the Trading Paints team; we thought it was a surefire top-three number given the unstoppable force that is JR Nation. Alas, there are 67,861 paints bearing the #88 on Trading Paints.

Another number we expected to rank a bit higher with 74,346 total uses. They’re doing it for Dale.

Two is a good number. It’s humble. You aren’t like the braggadocious #1; you’ve got to prove yourself. A total of 74,751 #2 paints live on Trading Paints.

There’s quite a jump from fifth to fourth on our list: 84,963 paints — over 10,000 more than the #2 — bear the #9.

OK, maybe this is where 85,855 of JR Nation painters went — their ranks splintered between the #88 and the #8. (Or maybe they’re just big Hut Stricklin fans. Circuit City, baby.)

It’s a racer’s number, plain and simple. From Speed Racer to Penelope Pitstop to a host of NASCAR stars, 93,350 times a car has been assigned on Trading Paints with the #5.

Of course, it could only be #1 in P1. There are 95,389 Custom Number paints assigned as #1, and none of them belong to Smitty Werbenjägermanjensen.

Since we shared the top 10, it’s only fair to share the bottom 10.

These numbers are the least-frequently used as Custom Number paints (from 0-99, including numbers with leading zeroes). If you’re shopping around for a unique new number, this might be a great place to look.

10th least popular: #70 (7,015 paints)

9th least popular: #68  (6,677 paints)

8th least popular: #65  (6,127 paints)

7th least popular: #06  (6,123 paints)

6th least popular: #04  (5,842 paints)

5th least popular: #80  (5,340 paints)

4th least popular: #03  (5,143 paints)

3rd least popular: #59 (4,947 paints)

2nd least popular: #08 (4,271 paints)

…and the least popular custom number on Trading Paints: #05 (3,754 paints).

Number Builder inspo from the team

The Trading Paints team put together a few “starter projects” with Number Builder, our free web app for making your car number your very own.

Check out the blog post for links to each number that you can truly make your own.

Try Number Builder

If you haven’t already taken a peek, we’d like to invite you to check out Number Builder to start designing your own stylized race car numbers.

It’s a free app we made just for fun and no login is required. You can choose from hundreds of font styles (or upload your own), change the width, slant, spacing, and knock yourself out with outlines in any style to your heart’s content. Fair warning, though: we’ve been told it’s addictive.

👀 New Number Builder features coming soon

Later this season, we’ll be releasing some major new updates to Number Builder, including a number Showroom, project remixes, advanced sharing, and more.

Stay tuned, and happy Number Day!
